SLOW Food is an international not-for-profit organisation founded in 1986 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions, people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world – people, communities, animals, plants and the environment. Slow Food is based in Bra, Italy.
It has almost 100,000 members in 132 countries. Slow Food Australia – Slow Food’s first national association in the southern hemisphere – has 38 convivia, or branches.
All of our activities are co-ordinated by volunteers.
Slow Food is about Good Food, Clean Food and Fair Food.
• Good meaning tasty, fresh, seasonal capable of stimulating the senses.
• Clean meaning produced without straining the earth’s resources, its eco systems and environments
• Fair meaning it is respectful of social justices, fair returns to all along the supply chain.
The Hawkesbury Harvest Convivium have partnered with Urban Graze Food Tours to develop and run special slow food events. Tarrah and Joel from Urban Graze are true believers and always select the best produce for their cooking classes and for their food tours. You can find them at urbangraze.com.au
Please contact us for further information and if you wish to join please download the membership form and come along to our events. (see below)

The balance is used by Slow Food Australia to fund the development of national projects and events. You can join as an individual or as joint members, and there’s a special rate for people under 30. You can also take advantage of ’sustainer’ membership, where your extra contribution goes directly to education and food defence projects across the world. |

| Hawkesbury Harvest Launches 'Genuine Grower Policy' |
|
The board of Hawkesbury Harvest has put in place a 'Product Point of Sale' policy, know as our Genuine Grower Policy' for Farmers Markets.
This will allow consumers to identify if a stall holder is a Genuine Grower, Genuine Producer or a Reseller. The power to buy from that stall will know be in the hands of the Customers. It will be fully implemented across all Farmers Markets by the end of April 2010. |

| Slow Food Founder in Sydney for International Food Festival |
|
Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food movement, shares his revolutionary ideas about food with Sydney International Food Festival director Joanna Savill, followed by a short question and answer session.
In what is sure to be one of the highlights of this year's festival, Petrini will deliver a manifesto for change based on the simple principles of good, clean and fair, which he explains as follows: "Slow Food is good, clean and fair food. We believe that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work." From humble beginnings as a protest against the opening of a McDonalds near the Spanish Steps in Rome, the Slow Food movement has blossomed internationally to include over 100,000 members - including an Australian branch. Passionate, thought-provoking and challenging, prepare to rethink the politics of your refrigerator; after spending an afternoon with Carlo Petrini, you'll soon find yourself saving the planet - one meal at a time. Carlo Petrini will be speaking at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday October 18, at 2pm. To book, phone (02) 9250 7777 and quote "SLOW FOOD" or book online at - Sydney Opera House and enter the Promo Code SLOW FOOD Carlo's book, Slow Food Nation, will be available for purchase and signing after his presentation. Duration: 75 minutes, no interval |
